Norwich City kicked off 2026 with a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on New Year’s Day. Josh Sargent scored the opening goal early in the second half, followed by Jovon Makama doubling the lead in added time. Amadou Mbengue managed to reduce the margin in the 9th minute after regular time, adding intensity to the match.

Philippe Clement made changes to the team lineup after a previous defeat, with José Cordoba, Ben Chrisene, and Matej Jurásek starting at Loftus Road Stadium in West London. The game saw few chances in the first half, with Steve Cook missing a header narrowly wide and Vladan Kovacevic making crucial saves for Norwich.

Norwich City took the lead just a minute into the second half when Jurasek’s cross found Sargent, who headed in the goal. Despite several close attempts from both sides, the score remained tight. Jovon Makama sealed the victory for Norwich with a goal in injury time, while QPR managed a late consolation goal through Amadou Mbengue.

Looking ahead, Norwich City will face Stoke City at Carrow Road in their first home match of 2026 on Sunday afternoon.
