The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar apprehended an Ola cab driver for absconding with valuables exceeding Rs 20 lakh that belonged to a passenger. The incident occurred on the night of January 7, as confirmed by the police.
The accused, identified as Nageswar Pramanik from Kuanpal village in Cuttack district, was taken into custody. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Zone VI, Sonali Singh Parmar, revealed that a formal complaint regarding the incident was lodged at the Chandrasekharpur police station.
Aman Kumar Agarwal, a businessman from Cuttack city, reported that after returning from Thailand to Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, he hired an Ola cab driven by Pramanik to reach home. While conversing with his wife during the ride, Agarwal inadvertently disclosed details about the valuable gifts from Thailand, which the driver overheard.
Allegedly, the driver asked Agarwal to alight at Patia under false pretenses, following which he absconded with the passenger’s possessions, including cash, jewelry, foreign currency, passport, and other items, collectively valued at around Rs 20 lakh. Subsequently, Agarwal filed a complaint, leading to the arrest of Pramanik, who has a history of involvement in multiple criminal cases.
