Opposition party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to boycott the ongoing winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. This move comes in response to what the party perceives as biased conduct by the Speaker and undemocratic behavior by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. BRS MLAs walked out of the session after being denied the opportunity to speak.
Following the walkout, the BRS members staged a protest near the Assembly building at Gun Park. Deputy Leader T. Harish Rao stated to the media that their boycott of the session would continue. Rao criticized the Assembly’s proceedings, alleging a departure from democratic principles and unfair treatment towards the opposition.
Harish Rao highlighted that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting had initially agreed on a seven-day session, but discrepancies arose regarding the session’s duration. He accused the Speaker of unilateral actions and suppressing the opposition’s voice during question hour. Rao compared the Chief Minister’s conduct to that of a “street thug,” emphasizing the need for respectful dialogue in the Assembly.
