The Opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh has condemned Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for a fatal road accident that claimed 10 lives and left over 30 injured in Chhindwara district. State Congress leader Jitu Patwari, during his visit to Chhindwara, accused Yadav of compelling villagers to attend his rally, which led to the tragic incident. Patwari also met with the accident victims at the Chhindwara district hospital, alleging that attendees were coerced and threatened to join the Chief Minister’s event.
Patwari highlighted that women, under pressure and inducements, were taken to the gathering, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives and injuries. He criticized the government for pressuring Anganwadi workers to ensure a specific number of female attendees, risking their jobs if they failed to comply. Patwari questioned the appropriateness of such coercion for government programs, emphasizing negligence and mismanagement by the authorities.
The State Congress announced a financial aid of Rs 50,000 for each deceased victim’s family and demanded a consistent compensation policy for accident victims. Leader of Opposition Umang Sighar declared the financial assistance during a press conference in Bhopal. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yadav, after meeting the affected families, increased the ex gratia amount from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh for each deceased person’s kin in the accident.
