Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh, Umang Singhar, has written to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, highlighting widespread crop damage due to recent unseasonal weather. The affected districts include Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri, Barwani, Betul, and Raisen. Crops like wheat, mustard, and gram have suffered significant losses, impacting farmers’ livelihoods.
Singhar emphasized the urgent need for relief measures and compensation for affected farmers. He also called for a transparent survey by the Revenue and Agriculture Departments to assess the damage accurately. The delay in wheat procurement at Minimum Support Price has added to the challenges faced by farmers, leaving harvested crops vulnerable to weather fluctuations.
The government is set to begin wheat procurement at MSP from April 10, as per official statements. Weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh have been unstable, with regions experiencing cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall, and gusty winds. The Meteorological Department reported light to moderate showers in northern and central parts, along with isolated hailstorms and thunderstorms.
Farmers are on edge as changing weather patterns, attributed to active western disturbances and local atmospheric instability, pose risks to standing crops and harvested produce. The forecast indicates continued weather fluctuations in the coming days, raising concerns for agricultural activities in the state.
