More than 3.1 lakh PNG connections, spanning various sectors like domestic, commercial, hostel, and canteen, have been gasified in March. An additional 2.7 lakh new connections are in the process of being gasified to increase the availability of natural gas for cooking, especially due to disruptions in LPG imports caused by the Iran conflict. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry disclosed these developments on Tuesday.
The ministry revealed that an average of over 50 lakh domestic LPG cylinders have been delivered daily since March 1, 2026. Notably, there have been no reports of ‘dryouts’ at LPG distributorships. Furthermore, more than 3.2 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been sold to migrant laborers, with over 63,000 sold on Monday alone.
In efforts to meet the demand for piped natural gas (PNG) and CNG for vehicles, consumers are being prioritized with 100% supply. Industrial and commercial consumers connected to the grid are receiving around 80% of their average consumption. The ministry emphasized that measures are in place to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG nationwide, considering the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
