Padma Shri Chutni Mahato expressed her support for the proposed amendments to the women’s reservation bill, commending the extension of the Budget session for its implementation. She praised the Modi government for fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of introducing women’s reservation in the legislature, contrasting it with the lack of progress by Congress governments over the past three decades.
Chutni Mahato, known for her stance against political witch-hunting, highlighted the deficiencies in Congress’s approach to the bill despite its prolonged tenure in power. She lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s determination in addressing the issue. According to her, Congress’s failure to address critical matters indicates a realization that regaining power may be challenging.
She criticized Rahul Gandhi, stating that he lacks the necessary qualities and credibility to lead the nation or become Prime Minister. Mahato credited PM Modi’s leadership for propelling the country towards significant developmental achievements, thereby bolstering the BJP’s standing. She also acknowledged the BJP government’s initiatives benefiting women, the underprivileged, and marginalized communities, emphasizing their positive outcomes.
The Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) Amendment Act, passed in 2023, mandates 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and the Delhi Assembly for 15 years. However, its enforcement is contingent on the Census and delimitation exercise conducted post its enactment.
