New Chandigarh, April 11 – Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer played a pivotal role in ending the team’s 19-year trophy drought by guiding them to a six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Iyer, named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 69, expressed determination to clinch the trophy this year, emphasizing the effort required.
Chasing a challenging total of 220, PBKS had a strong start with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh aggressively taking on the SRH bowlers, reaching 93/0 in the Power-play and putting pressure on the opposition. Despite a brief loss of momentum in the middle overs, Iyer’s composed innings, supported by partnerships with Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh, ensured the team achieved the target with seven balls to spare.
Iyer, who paced his innings strategically, highlighted the significance of maintaining the team’s rhythm and work ethic for future matches. He commended the bowling performance of Shashank Singh, emphasizing the collective effort of the team in securing the victory.
