Kerala gears up for a crucial election day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi are set to kick off their campaign trails in various constituencies. The state is preparing to elect 140 new legislators on April 9.
Rahul Gandhi will cover three districts in a single day, with scheduled programs in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Idukki, as the Congress-led UDF intensifies its efforts to regain power. Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to launch a second round of campaigning, focusing on Wayanad, her Lok Sabha constituency, a key political hub for the party.
On the other hand, PM Modi will lead the BJP’s campaign with a large rally in Thiruvalla followed by a high-profile 1.5-kilometre roadshow in Nemom, where state BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar is contesting. This roadshow aims to showcase the BJP’s strength and boost its electoral presence.
Nemom holds significance for the BJP, being its only Assembly victory in 2016 before losing it in 2021. The party is now striving to regain lost ground, optimistic about not only reopening its account but also securing multiple seats this time. Both the BJP and Congress-led UDF are eyeing victory, with the latter sensing an opportunity to capitalize on anti-incumbency sentiments and return to power.
The strategic importance of Kerala is evident as PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi engage in parallel campaigns, highlighting the fierce competition between the national parties. With both leaders planning further visits, Kerala becomes a battleground for the BJP and Congress, setting the stage for a significant political showdown ahead of the polls.
