Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman for leading the BNP to victory in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections. Modi expressed his warm wishes to Rahman on social media, highlighting the people’s trust in his leadership. He assured continued support for a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral relations and common development goals.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its alliance secured a significant win in the 13th parliamentary elections, winning 210 seats. Tarique Rahman is poised to lead the new government, marking the return of a male Prime Minister in Bangladesh after nearly 35 years. Unofficial results from various constituencies confirmed Tarique’s victory, including his win in Dhaka-17 by a margin of 4,399 votes.

Tarique Rahman, the son of former Bangladeshi President Gen. Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, took over the BNP leadership following his mother’s death. He expressed confidence in his party’s victory after casting his vote, signaling a new chapter in Bangladesh’s political landscape. Tarique’s election marks a significant transition in the country’s leadership, with expectations for continued progress and development.
