Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairman Tarique Rehman, congratulating him on his party’s success in the Bangladesh elections. PM Modi also expressed India’s support for Rehman’s efforts to meet the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.
The BNP-led alliance, under Tarique Rehman’s leadership, secured a significant victory in the elections, winning 210 seats and crossing the majority mark to form a new government. Earlier, PM Modi had extended his best wishes to Rehman for leading his party to a decisive win.
PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous relationship with Bangladesh, highlighting the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations. He expressed readiness to collaborate with Rehman to enhance bilateral relations and achieve common development objectives.
Tarique Rehman, who took over the BNP leadership after the passing of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, is poised to be sworn in as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. This marks the return of a male Prime Minister to Bangladesh after nearly 35 years, with BNP’s victory overshadowing the performance of the Jamaat-e-Islami party.
