Addressing his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted various water conservation initiatives as summer approaches. During the 132nd episode, PM Modi stressed the importance of renewing the commitment to water conservation with the onset of summer. He mentioned the success of the ‘Jal Sanchay Abhiyan’ in creating awareness and the creation of 50 lakh Artificial Water Harvesting Structures nationwide.
The Prime Minister commended community-level efforts in villages to combat water scarcity, including cleaning old ponds and conserving rainwater. He also mentioned the Amrit Sarovar Abhiyan, which has led to the creation of nearly 70,000 Amrit Sarovars across the country. PM Modi shared inspiring examples of public participation in water conservation, such as the Wangmun village in Tripura, where rooftop rainwater harvesting systems have transformed the water situation.
In another instance in the Korea district of Chhattisgarh, farmers implemented recharge ponds and soak pits in their fields, significantly improving the groundwater level. Similarly, in Mudhigunta village, Telangana, residents united to address water issues by constructing soak pits, leading to enhanced groundwater levels and reduced waterborne diseases.
