Swamiji’s significant contributions in education, social welfare, and spirituality have had a lasting impact on society, inspiring many to follow the path of altruism and service.
Swamiji, also known as “Nadedavaru Devaru (Walking God)” in Karnataka, passed away in 2019 after establishing over 12,000 educational institutions, ranging from nursery schools to colleges offering various fields of study. These institutions, managed by the Siddaganga Mutt, include centers that teach Sanskrit alongside modern science and technology, reflecting Swamiji’s holistic approach to education.
Born on April 1, 1907, in Veerapura village near Bengaluru, Swamiji, originally named Shivanna, experienced a spiritual awakening following his mother’s early demise. He pursued his education, eventually becoming the head of Siddaganga Mutt for nearly 76 years, succeeding his guru Uddana Sivayogigalu. Under his leadership, the Sri Siddaganga Education Society was established, providing traditional and modern education to numerous students, especially those from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.
Proficient in Kannada, English, and Sanskrit, Swamiji was known for his discipline and teaching abilities. His dedication and contributions earned him accolades such as the Karnataka Ratna, the highest civilian award in the state, and the Padma Bhushan. His legacy continues to inspire generations, embodying the values of service and knowledge dissemination.
