Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak at a national-level ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday at 11 a.m. The event will feature prominent figures and accomplished women from various sectors like government, academia, science, sports, entrepreneurship, media, social work, and culture. It aims to gather diverse stakeholders to discuss the role of women in India’s development journey.
The program is part of the government’s broader initiative towards empowering women and emphasizes the need for increased female participation in decision-making processes. It will showcase the rising number of women in leadership positions, ranging from local governance bodies to the national Parliament. The event follows the enactment of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ in September 2023, which mandated one-third reservation for women in legislative bodies, a move seen as transformative for Indian politics.
With the focus now on implementing women’s reservation nationwide, a parliamentary session has been called from April 16 to 18 to further deliberate on the matter. The Sammelan is expected to generate momentum for this cause and reaffirm the government’s dedication to fostering greater inclusivity in governance. It will also stress the significance of women’s involvement in shaping India’s future as the nation progresses towards its goal of becoming a developed country by 2047, known as ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
