A drainage project costing Rs 244 crore aimed at resolving monsoon waterlogging issues in Sanand will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Gujarat visit on March 31. The project is part of a larger industrial infrastructure initiative totaling Rs 271.20 crore, overseen by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC). Sanand Industrial Estate, known for its high-tech industries, is set to transform into a “zero waterlogging” zone with the completion of these projects.
The drainage projects in Sanand include the construction of an 18.71 km-long RCC stormwater drain along the estate’s perimeters to manage internal and upstream water flow. Additionally, a 18.35 km-long drainage network near the main entry points along the Sanand–Viramgam highway has been established. Officials have confirmed that these efforts will effectively address the issue of rainwater accumulation in Sanand, marking a significant milestone in ensuring a waterlogging-free industrial estate.
In Naroda, an industrial estate dating back to 1963, infrastructure enhancements worth Rs 27.20 crore have been completed under the Assistance for Industrial Infrastructure (A.I.I.) scheme. The upgrades encompass road strengthening, stormwater drain construction, natural channel lining, and the creation of footpaths and parking spaces across 1.19 lakh square meters. Furthermore, modern amenities like street lighting, security cabins, and toilet blocks have been installed to elevate the estate’s infrastructure standards.
The modernization of Naroda and Sanand industrial estates is anticipated to benefit numerous small and large industrial units by improving drainage systems, upgrading roads, and enhancing overall infrastructure. These developments are poised to streamline logistics operations, boost industrial efficiency, and enhance Gujarat’s appeal to global investors. The inauguration ceremony, scheduled to be attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, state cabinet members, and industry representatives, will mark a significant milestone in Gujarat’s industrial progress.
