Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on voters in Assam and Kerala, especially the youth and women, to participate actively as the high-stakes Assembly elections kick off. The polling for 126 Assembly seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala, and 30 in Puducherry began at 7 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. The election results are scheduled to be announced on May 4.
In his social media posts, PM Modi emphasized the importance of voter turnout in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. He urged the people of Assam to make the election a celebration of democracy by voting in large numbers. Similarly, he called upon the voters of Kerala to contribute to the democratic process by casting their votes enthusiastically. Additionally, he encouraged the electorate in Puducherry to strengthen democracy through active participation in the electoral process.
The electoral landscape in Kerala involves around 2.71 crore voters who will determine the state’s governance. Notably, a significant number of voters have already participated in home voting. As the polling booths opened early in the morning, candidates engaged in last-minute efforts to secure votes, highlighting the intense competition and anticipation surrounding the elections.
In Assam, the primary contest is between the BJP and Congress, with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term and the Congress seeking to regain power. The voting process in Assam will conclude on May 20, following a single-phase polling day that witnessed long queues of voters outside polling stations. Meanwhile, in Puducherry, voters turned out steadily to elect representatives to the 30-member Assembly, with a keen contest expected among major political parties.
