In response to the tragic stampede at Sheetla Mata Temple in Nalanda district, police have taken action by arresting four priests and charging 40 individuals. The incident, which resulted in the loss of nine lives and injuries to several others, occurred in Madhada village under Deepnagar police station’s jurisdiction. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation due to the severity of the situation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that negligence and inadequate crowd control were significant contributors to the unfortunate event. Efforts are ongoing as police and administrative teams conduct raids to apprehend other suspects involved. Families of the victims are mourning the loss, while the injured are receiving necessary medical care and support from the administration.
The incident has highlighted concerns about crowd management and safety measures at religious gatherings, particularly during peak attendance times. President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the lives lost in the stampede and offered condolences to the affected families. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also expressed grief and extended sympathies to the victims’ families, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh for the families of the deceased, and the Central government has pledged Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals.
