A police officer at the Civil Lines police station in Akola, Maharashtra, faces allegations of seeking sexual favors from a woman in police custody, leading to immediate departmental response. The woman, arrested by cyber police for a fraud case involving Rs 80 lakh, claimed the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) asked for physical relations during her custody. Upon reporting the incident to a female officer, senior officials intervened promptly, with the accused ASI reprimanded on the spot.
The woman filed a formal complaint against the officer, resulting in the Civil Lines police station registering a case against him. The incident has caused concern and protests due to its gravity. In response, the police department suspended the accused officer and conducted a search operation, leading to the ASI’s subsequent arrest that night.
In a similar case on March 21 in Aligarh, a police Constable named Imran Khan, stationed at the Quarsi police station, faced suspension and charges for allegedly making inappropriate demands to a 25-year-old rape survivor. The Constable reportedly linked action on her complaint to engaging in sexual relations with him in a hotel room. The survivor recorded conversations where the Constable made explicit remarks and offered legal help in exchange for sexual favors, leading her to escalate the matter to senior police officials. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, responded by suspending the Constable and ordering an FIR against him.
