Ahead of the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal, police in Kolkata have been recovering cash and firearms from various locations. Over a 24-hour period, the police’s Flying Squad seized bundles of cash ranging from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 7 lakh at four different spots in the city, totaling Rs 18,24,000. Additionally, firearms were also confiscated during these operations.
During a naka check at Park Street crossing on Friday evening, police discovered a significant amount of cash totaling Rs 6,96,000 in a car. The Static Surveillance Team assisted in this operation, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the origin and destination of the money. Similarly, on Saturday morning near Garden Reach Crossing, another bundle of money amounting to Rs 2,18,000 was found in a car, prompting further investigations.
In another incident near Nature Park on Taratala Road, police stopped a car and recovered Rs 4,10,000 in cash. Furthermore, a bag containing Rs 5 lakh in 500-rupee notes was seized during a check near the Joka tram depot from a car carrying five passengers. Alongside the cash seizures, police also uncovered a country-made pistol during a raid in Maniktala, leading to the arrest of a young man named Asgar Ali Mollah.
