A political exchange has emerged before the Umreth Assembly by-election in Gujarat, with the Congress questioning the BJP’s candidate selection and raising concerns about dynastic politics. The BJP has chosen Harshad Parmar, the son of former BJP MLA Govind Parmar, as its candidate for the upcoming by-election. Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar criticized the BJP’s choice, highlighting the issue of “parivarvaad” or dynastic politics.
The Congress has begun its internal process to finalize a candidate for the by-election in Umreth. Party officials have appointed observers for the Umreth Assembly seat, and the report will soon be submitted to the state Congress president, Amit Chavda. The party is set to announce the candidate’s name shortly.
In response, the BJP has defended its candidate for the by-poll. Party chief spokesperson Dr. Anil Patel stated that Harshad Parmar, aged 38, is their candidate for the Umreth Assembly seat by-election. Patel emphasized Parmar’s hard work and leadership qualities, noting his involvement in his father’s political journey. The BJP expressed confidence in winning the by-election, citing strong public support for Govind Parmar and the state government’s developmental initiatives.
The by-election for the Umreth seat in Anand district was triggered by the passing of sitting MLA Govind Parmar. This constituency has been a battleground between the BJP and Congress in recent years, making the upcoming poll a closely watched event in the region.
