President Droupadi Murmu recently revealed a unique invitation, handcrafted by artisans from the North Eastern states, for the upcoming ‘At Home’ event on the 77th Republic Day. The invitation kit, highlighted in a short film shared on social media, pays homage to the traditional art and skilled craftsmen of India’s North Eastern Region. Crafted from a woven bamboo mat from Tripura, the kit features decorative motifs inspired by Assamese manuscript painting styles.
The invitation box, a wall-hanging-type panel, showcases traditional art from all eight states of the North East. It incorporates various elements such as woven nettle fabric and embroidery from Sikkim, green bamboo weave from Meghalaya, Mon Shugu Paper from Arunachal Pradesh, and more. The motifs on the fabric panel depict the flora and fauna of the North Eastern region, celebrating the diverse cultural heritage of the area.
The ‘At Home’ event on Republic Day, hosted by the President, is a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, bringing together dignitaries, cultural figures, and prominent citizens. The event, scheduled for January 26, serves as a platform to showcase India’s rich cultural diversity, crafts, and achievements. Notable attendees include the Vice President, the Prime Minister, and this year’s Chief Guests, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
This year’s Republic Day Parade will feature a blend of 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, India’s military prowess with displays of BrahMos and Akash missiles, and a celebration of the country’s cultural richness through 30 vibrant tableaux. The event is set to be a grand spectacle, highlighting India’s heritage and achievements.
