Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, defended his government’s banking and public sector reforms. He highlighted the reduction of non-performing assets (NPAs) to below one per cent through various reforms, emphasizing the importance of a strong banking system for a robust economy. Modi praised the record profits of public sector undertakings (PSUs) under his government, crediting them as key players in initiatives like ‘Make-in-India’, promoting employment and global expansion.
In his speech, Modi criticized the Opposition, particularly the Congress and Trinamool Congress, for allegedly spreading misinformation about PSUs. He likened their actions to urban Naxals inciting unrest outside factory gates. Expressing disappointment in the quality of discussions in the House, Modi called for higher standards in parliamentary debates. He specifically targeted the Trinamool Congress, highlighting concerns over the law and order situation in West Bengal.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of illegal immigrants, referring to them as “ghuspetiye”. He criticized certain parties in India for allegedly shielding illegal immigrants, warning about the negative impact on job opportunities, tribal lands, violence, and women’s safety. Modi contrasted the current positive connotation of the term “deal” with past scandals like the “Bofors deal”, focusing on personal enrichment. He thanked Indian citizens for their support and emphasized his government’s efforts to rectify past mistakes, shifting towards future-oriented policies for consistent governance.
Modi stressed the importance of structural and policy changes under the mantra of “reform-transform-perform”, positioning India on a path of global competitiveness. He highlighted the country’s readiness to compete on a global scale across various sectors, attributing this progress to the government’s commitment to reform and governance.
