Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on January 17 and 18 for various cultural and development events. On Saturday evening, he will be present at a grand traditional Bodo cultural show at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The event will feature the ‘Bagurumba Dohou 2026’, showcasing the cultural richness of the Bodo community through a synchronized Bagurumba dance performance by over 10,000 artists.
During the cultural extravaganza, artists from 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of Assam will participate, making it one of the largest cultural displays in the state. The Bagurumba dance, a significant folk dance of the Bodo community, symbolizes nature’s beauty and the harmony between humans and the environment. It embodies themes of peace, fertility, joy, and communal unity, with its graceful movements mirroring elements of nature like butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers.
On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Modi will conduct the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project in Kaliabor. This ambitious infrastructure venture, valued at over ₹6,950 crore, involves the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715, with a special focus on environmental sensitivity. The project includes an 86-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park, along with bypasses and highway widening, aiming to enhance connectivity in Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts while promoting wildlife movement and mitigating human-animal conflicts.
In addition to the infrastructure project, the Prime Minister will inaugurate two new Amrit Bharat Express trains during the program. These trains, the Guwahati (Kamakhya) – Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services, will strengthen rail connectivity between Northeast India and the northern regions.
