Project Chetak of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) observed its 47th Raising Day in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Established in 1980 in the western sector, the project has been instrumental in developing and maintaining infrastructure in Rajasthan, Punjab, and parts of Gujarat. It has significantly contributed to connecting border areas, enhancing national security, and promoting regional development.

With the motto ‘Chetak ka Prayas, Desh ka Vikas’, Project Chetak is among the largest BRO projects, covering a vast geographical area of over 4,000 km of road network and 214 km of ditch-cum-bund. The project supports defense forces by upkeeping key feeder roads leading to the International Border, with ongoing efforts to upgrade them to National Highway Double Lane standards. The BRO commemorated the occasion on social media, highlighting Project Chetak’s resilience, engineering excellence, and commitment to nation-building in the Western Sector.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been actively involved in constructing and maintaining strategic infrastructure such as roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields in border and remote regions to meet military and civilian requirements. Since its establishment in 1960, the BRO has completed numerous projects, including over 64,100 kms of roads, 1,179 bridges, 07 tunnels, and 22 airfields across India’s border areas and neighboring countries. Operating under the Ministry of Defence since 2015–16, the BRO also contributes to regional connectivity and strategic partnerships through overseas infrastructure projects in countries like Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.

In the fiscal year 2024–25, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) achieved its highest-ever expenditure of Rs 16,690 crore. Looking ahead, an ambitious expenditure target of Rs 17,900 crore has been set for FY 2025–26, building on this positive momentum. Over the span of two years from 2024 to 2025, the BRO completed 250 infrastructure projects, marking a significant milestone in strategic border development and infrastructure enhancement.
