Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared a four-year progress report of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, part of the government’s ongoing “Shandaar Char Saal Bhagwant Mann de naal” series. He introduced the state’s first caste socio-economic survey, highlighting rural development as vital for inclusive growth. The survey, starting on April 1, aims to guide fair and targeted policymaking while ensuring confidentiality.
Mann emphasized the significance of the caste socio-economic survey in shaping policies equitably. He stressed the importance of initiatives like infrastructure development, transparent land management for revenue generation, and youth-centric programs. The Chief Minister underlined the government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and tangible outcomes across sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The rural development report card is part of a comprehensive governance structure, showcasing the government’s performance in various sectors. Mann mentioned the progress made in village development, including infrastructure projects and pond cleaning. He highlighted revenue growth from eliminating illegal land encroachments and other sources, emphasizing the state’s efforts towards holistic rural progress.
CM Mann noted the rise in consensus during Panchayat elections, with a significant increase in the number of Panchayats elected unanimously. He mentioned the enhancement of sarpanches’ honorarium and the increased allocation for rural development under the 15th Finance Commission. The government’s focus on village development is evident from the substantial increase in spending over the years, reflecting a commitment to rural progress.
