The Punjab Congress has raised concerns about Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s motives behind organizing an anti-drug march involving Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal. They suspect a potential alliance between the Akali Dal and BJP. AAP legislator Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal criticized the joint participation of Badal and BJP leader Ashwani Sharma in the march, questioning its effectiveness in combating drug issues.
The Punjab Congress also questioned the Governor’s commitment to eradicating drugs, suggesting the march may be a political move rather than a genuine anti-drug initiative. Criticism was directed at the Governor for potentially using the march to pave the way for an Akali-BJP alliance in the state. AAP spokesperson Dhaliwal highlighted the state government’s efforts in the anti-drug campaign and expressed concerns over the Governor’s parallel anti-drug yatra.
Governor Kataria led an anti-drug awareness walk in Ferozepur, emphasizing the importance of collective action against drug abuse. He stressed the need for sustained efforts to eliminate the social menace of drug addiction. The Governor’s initiative comes amidst ongoing anti-drug campaigns in Punjab led by the state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
