The Punjab government has launched a new ‘reward policy’ empowering the Punjab Police to compensate informants who provide information about wanted criminals and gangsters in the state. A list of 28 most wanted criminals has been disclosed as part of the initiative. Under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ project, various authorities have been granted sanction powers ranging from Rs 1 lakh to above Rs 2 lakh for rewarding accurate and genuine information.

The project aims to engage residents in assisting the government and police to enhance the safety of the state. Informants will be rewarded based on verified information, with their identities kept confidential at all levels. Pramod Ban, ADGP of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from Punjab.

Residents can share information through the ‘Anti-Gangster Helpline’ at 9394693946. Informants providing credible leads leading to the apprehension of criminals will be acknowledged and supported by the Punjab Police. The initiative is part of the broader ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, reinforcing the state’s efforts to combat gangsterism effectively.

The reward amount will be determined case by case, considering the severity of the offense, associated risks, and the quality of information provided. This policy is a crucial component of the ongoing drive to make Punjab a gangster-free state, ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
