Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of corruption and labeling the BJP’s governance in the state as a “land ATM.” Speaking at an election rally in Bokajan, Gandhi claimed that regular people’s land was being taken and given to big corporate entities. He also alleged the involvement of PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in this process.
Gandhi referred to Sarma as “the most corrupt Chief Minister in India” and highlighted alleged corrupt practices by the Chief Minister’s family. He promised that if Congress comes to power, action would be taken against those implicated. Gandhi further stated that a significant amount of land in Assam had been allotted to three corporate groups, emphasizing a governance model favoring big businesses over local communities.
The Congress leader campaigned for party candidate Raton Engti ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam. The state is set to vote on April 9, with results expected on May 4. The political atmosphere in Assam has intensified as the Congress and BJP engage in a battle over land issues, corruption allegations, and governance, with both sides aggressively campaigning.
