The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has showcased increased vigilance and operational effectiveness through successful actions within its jurisdiction. Operations on March 24 spanned railway stations and trains in various locations including Guwahati, Kamakhya, Hojai, New Bongaigaon, Agartala, Aluabari, New Jalpaiguri, and Samsi.
In a notable humanitarian gesture, RPF teams in Guwahati rescued a young boy from a train at Guwahati Railway Station, ensuring his safe handover to the Child Welfare Committee for care and rehabilitation. Another significant operation led by the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of Katihar, in collaboration with RPF, resulted in the apprehension of a tout at Samsi Railway Station with 14 illegal e-tickets valued at over Rs 61,700.
The RPF teams also seized contraband items like ganja and liquor, and apprehended individuals involved in illegal possession of arms and a drugging case, emphasizing their proactive stance in maintaining law and order. Enforcement drives conducted by the RPF of NFR in March yielded substantial results, including the recovery of 268.82 kg of dry ganja, cigarettes, cough syrup, heroin, poppy seeds, and liquor, with a total estimated value exceeding Rs 1.91 crore.
During these operations, 37 individuals were arrested, and Rs 7.60 lakh in cash was recovered in one instance. Notably, the RPF seized one pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges in cases related to arms and ammunition, reinforcing their efforts to combat illegal weapon possession within railway premises. Actions against theft resulted in the arrest of eight offenders, leading to the recovery of seven mobile phones and one trolley bag valued at Rs 86,000.
Efforts against illegal ticketing activities also saw the arrest of two touts with 16 tickets worth Rs 63,668, bringing the total recovery and seizures to over Rs 1.93 crore. The sustained actions underscore the dedication of the RPF under NFR in ensuring passenger safety, curbing unlawful activities, and fostering a secure and passenger-friendly railway environment. Continuous vigilance and proactive enforcement measures are being implemented to enhance security across railway premises.
