The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted rainfall in various areas of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days, offering potential relief from the current heatwave. According to an official statement released on Monday, there is a chance of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in isolated spots in the Western Ghats districts on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, light rainfall is anticipated in a few places along the coastal districts of southern Tamil Nadu during the same timeframe.
These weather conditions are a result of changing atmospheric factors affecting the southern peninsula, leading to localized precipitation, especially in hilly and coastal regions. Looking forward, the forecast indicates that light rainfall will persist at isolated locations in both the Western Ghats districts and the southern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu on April 1 and 2. While the rainfall is not expected to be widespread, it may offer intermittent relief in specific regions experiencing high temperatures.
In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are expected in the coming days with the maximum temperature hovering around 35 degrees Celsius, typical of summer weather but slightly moderated by cloud cover. The partial cloudiness could bring slight variations in daytime temperatures. Meanwhile, the weather department has observed a gradual decrease in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions, with some places expected to see a drop of up to 3 degrees Celsius by April 2. This decline is likely to be gradual and region-specific, influenced by cloud formation and local weather changes.
Although no severe weather alerts have been issued, residents in thunderstorm-prone areas are advised to be cautious, especially during lightning activity. Overall, the forecast suggests a combination of mild rainfall and slight cooling, providing some relief as the state moves deeper into the summer season.
