The Rajasthan Assembly encountered disruptions as Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma responded to the debate on the Governor’s address. Sharma accepted the Congress’s challenge for a detailed discussion comparing the performance of the previous five-year Congress government with the BJP’s two-year term. He expressed readiness for the debate by presenting relevant documents to the House and requested the Speaker to schedule a time for it.
Following Sharma’s reply, the House adjourned until February 11. Congress MLAs disrupted the CM’s address twice, first during his dismissal of allegations related to the Special Investigation Report (SIR) and later when he agreed to the ‘two years versus five years’ debate challenge. Sharma criticized the opposition for moral posturing after losing power, highlighting issues of nepotism and corruption during the Congress regime.
Accusing the Congress of leaving a significant debt, Sharma emphasized the need for honesty in governance and criticized the opposition for neglecting the youth during their tenure. He indirectly targeted Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra, alleging favoritism and corruption under the previous government. Sharma defended his administration’s efforts to revive the economy after inheriting a weakened state from the Congress.
Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully launched a scathing attack on the BJP government during the debate, questioning their focus on branding over governance. Jully criticized the government for excessive branding activities and administrative instability. He also raised concerns about the Vande Mataram controversy and challenged the ruling party members on historical aspects related to the national song.
