The Rajasthan state government has established a high-level committee to create a “Tree Protection Bill” aimed at safeguarding Khejri trees and other vital tree species. Chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, the committee’s inaugural meeting, attended by key officials including Revenue Minister Hemant Meena and Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma, focused on studying tree protection laws from various states to ensure a robust legal framework with minimal litigation risks.
The committee is currently gathering input from relevant departments, legal experts, and stakeholders before finalizing the draft bill. Scheduled to convene again on March 11, the committee intends to introduce stringent measures for tree preservation across all land categories, including agricultural and non-agricultural lands. The proposed legislation will mandate permission from an authorized officer for the removal of trees on non-agricultural land, emphasizing the conservation of trees.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the Rajasthan government is dedicated to environmental conservation and the preservation of Khejri trees, which hold significant cultural and ecological value in the state, as per officials.
