Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently took part in the self-enumeration process for Census 2027, encouraging citizens to submit their household details online. This marks the beginning of India’s first fully digital census, departing from the traditional paper-based method used for over 150 years. The Census 2027 is divided into two phases under the Census Act, 1948, with the initial phase focusing on House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) to gather data on housing conditions and amenities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also completed their self-enumeration for Census 2027, emphasizing the importance of this digital initiative. The self-enumeration phase, which began recently, requires citizens to answer 33 questions related to housing conditions and assets. The government has set a deadline of April 15, 2026, for citizens to participate in the self-enumeration process, highlighting the shift towards faster and more accurate data collection for better planning and development in India.
With key leaders actively participating and promoting self-enumeration, the Census 2027 aims to establish a robust foundation for policy planning and development in India through digital data collection.
