A Rapido bike taxi rider in Bengaluru was taken into custody for allegedly harassing a female software professional. The 29-year-old woman, a manager at a software company, had booked the ride to commute to Manayata Tech Park. During the journey, the rider, identified as Vivek, reportedly behaved inappropriately towards her.
The woman objected to the rider’s behavior, leading to further misconduct as he touched her inappropriately. Subsequently, when she confronted him, the rider verbally abused her and raised his voice. Promptly, the woman sought help by alerting the local traffic police, who then involved the Hoysala patrolling squad.
Following the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint with the police, resulting in the arrest of the accused at his residence. The authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. The accused admitted to the offense, acknowledging that he had engaged in inappropriate physical contact.
Last year, another woman had a similar encounter with a Rapido driver named Lokesh, who allegedly made repeated inappropriate advances during a ride. Despite the passenger’s objections, the driver persisted in his actions from Church Street to Sudhamanagar. The victim, a cabin crew trainee, recounted her distress on social media, prompting the Bengaluru City Police to take action.
