Former Indian cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri expressed deep gratitude as a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium was named after him. The Mumbai Cricket Association honored cricketing stalwarts, including Shastri, Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji, for their contributions to Mumbai and Indian cricket. The Level 1 stand below the press box is now known as the Ravi Shastri Stand, recognizing his significant role in Indian cricket.
Honored by this gesture, Shastri referred to Wankhede as his “karmabhoomi,” where his cricketing journey began. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the honors, with stadium gates dedicated to other cricketing legends. Gate No. 3, Gate No. 6, and Gate No. 5 were renamed after Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji, respectively, acknowledging their contributions to Mumbai cricket.
Shastri expressed his gratitude to the Maharashtra Chief Minister, MCA officials, and the cricketing fraternity for the honor. The ceremony, attended by notable figures like Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar, celebrated the legacy of these cricketing icons at the Wankhede Stadium.
