Polling for the 2026 Puducherry Assembly elections ended peacefully with a high voter turnout. The voting, held in all 30 constituencies, saw enthusiastic public participation. Data from the Election Commission of India revealed a record 89.83% voter turnout in Puducherry, surpassing previous records.
The Union Territory, with around 9.5 lakh voters, witnessed strong participation across its regions. Male voters turnout was at 88.09%, female voters at 91.33%, and third-gender voters at 91.81%. This inclusive democratic process reflects heightened political awareness and enthusiasm among voters.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) aims to retain power, while the opposition INDIA bloc seeks a comeback. Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and actor-director Senthamizhan Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) have also entered the political arena. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4 to determine the Union Territory’s political future.
