Rescue efforts are ongoing to save a three-year-old boy, Bhagirath Dewasi, stuck at a depth of around 70 feet in a borewell in Jhalariya village, near Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when Bhagirath fell into the borewell while his family was tending to sheep in the field. Despite continuous monitoring and oxygen supply to the child, progress in the rescue operation has been hindered by hard rock formations.
Teams comprising NDRF and SDRF personnel are working tirelessly to free the child, with the use of multiple machines to dig a parallel pit and break through the rocks hindering the operation. Ujjain Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma confirmed the challenging rocky terrain is causing delays in the rescue process. The child’s well-being is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to ensure his safe retrieval from the borewell.
The joint rescue operation, involving various agencies and equipment, has entered a critical phase as the entire village and surrounding areas anxiously await the outcome. Borewell accidents involving children are a recurring concern in rural India, emphasizing the importance of stricter safety measures around unused borewells. The community’s prayers and hopes are with Bhagirath for a successful and swift rescue.
