Head coach Ricky Ponting commended Punjab Kings’ opening duo for their crucial role in the successful chase against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 match. He highlighted the opening partnership’s contribution in setting a solid foundation for the chase of 210 runs in just 18.4 overs on a high-scoring pitch.
Ponting expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the aggressive intent displayed by openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, who scored 55 runs in four overs, maintaining a brisk pace throughout the innings. He encouraged Prabhsimran Singh to continue playing his natural game despite the impressive display by Priyansh Arya.
The coach credited the early momentum provided by the openers for instilling confidence in the batting group during the chase. Ponting also praised Cooper Connolly for his significant contribution to the run chase, highlighting the team’s collective intent and confidence in their approach.
Ponting acknowledged the bowlers’ efforts in a high-scoring contest, particularly lauding Yuzvendra Chahal for his economical spell, conceding only 21 runs and claiming a crucial wicket. He attributed the team’s victory to the bowlers’ performance and their ability to stay competitive on a flat pitch.
Following their win over CSK, Punjab Kings, the 2025 runners-up, are set to face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
