Rising Indian tennis player Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, aged 16, is showcasing her skills at the ITF Women’s Open W100 Bengaluru. Despite a first-round singles loss to fifth seed Polina Iatcenko, she remains in the doubles competition with partner Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Maaya’s journey in tennis began in Coimbatore, where she started playing at a young age and transitioned to professional tennis with access to quality coaching facilities. Her recent participation in professional events, including tournaments in Mumbai and Pune, highlights her progress and development nurtured by early foundations in India and training at the Rafa Nadal Academy.
Reflecting on her career milestones, Maaya recalled her success at the Under-12 Nationals in 2022 and her impressive performance in ITF juniors, setting a 25-match winning streak and clinching multiple titles. Despite the recent singles setback, she views this phase as crucial for growth, focusing on gaining experience and enhancing her skills to achieve better results in the future.
Maaya expressed her fondness for Bengaluru, a city significant in her tennis journey, where she had notable achievements in her junior career. As she plans to concentrate on clay-court training at the Rafa Nadal Academy for the upcoming junior Grand Slams, she remains optimistic about her future in the sport, aiming for success on the international stage.
