Golf star Rory McIlroy will be participating in the 2026 India Championship at Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18. This event, with a prize of $4 million, will mark McIlroy’s second consecutive appearance after a successful debut last season. Ticket registrations are already open, expecting a strong turnout for this premier golf event.
McIlroy’s return to India follows his impressive achievements, including winning the career Grand Slam at Augusta National Golf Club. In 2025, he secured multiple wins on the PGA Tour, claimed his second Irish Open title, and played a pivotal role in Europe’s Ryder Cup victory. Additionally, he clinched his seventh Race to Dubai title, showcasing his global dominance.
Expressing his excitement for the upcoming event, McIlroy mentioned his positive experience in India during his first visit. He praised the warm reception from Indian golf fans and looks forward to returning to Delhi in October. Tommy Fleetwood, the reigning India Championship winner and World No. 4, will also be part of the tournament, having triumphed in the inaugural edition in 2025.
The India Championship, launched in 2025 by the DP World Tour in collaboration with the Professional Golf Tour of India, has become a prestigious event with the largest prize purse for a DP World Tour event in India. Positioned as the eighth of nine events leading to the season-ending playoffs, the tournament is a crucial part of the Race to Dubai calendar.
This event underscores India’s rising prominence in global golf, building on the foundation laid by the Hero Indian Open. The India Championship signifies the sport’s growth in the region, supported by increased investments, grassroots programs, and international partnerships. With the participation of top players like McIlroy and Fleetwood, the 2026 edition promises to showcase world-class golf in New Delhi once again.
