The Odisha Assembly faced turmoil as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s alleged disrespectful comments about Biju Patnaik stirred up a commotion. Opposition members from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress disrupted proceedings, leading to a heated exchange. Despite the chaos, Question Hour briefly continued until the House was adjourned by Speaker Surama Padhy.
Amid the uproar, the opposition demanded a resolution condemning Dubey’s remarks against Biju Babu. The situation intensified during Zero Hour discussions, with clashes between treasury and opposition members. The Appropriation Bill for the 2026-2027 budget was also introduced amidst the chaos in the Assembly.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan clarified the government’s stance, denouncing Dubey’s comments as his personal views. Harichandan emphasized that such disrespectful remarks were unacceptable and urged against their recurrence. Meanwhile, BJD leader Gautam Buddha Das criticized the BJP government, insisting on a clear and unconditional apology from Dubey to quell the ongoing outrage.
