Actor-comedian Russell Brand’s rape trial, initially set for June, has been rescheduled to commence in October. Brand faces charges of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault involving four women dating back to April 2025. Additional charges of rape and sexual assault were brought against him in December by London’s Metropolitan Police, relating to two more women. The trial, now consolidated with both sets of charges, is scheduled to begin on October 12 and may last around two months, avoiding the summer holiday period.
Brand, who denies all charges, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to defend himself in court. The allegations include accusations of raping a woman in a Bournemouth hotel room in 1999 and assaulting another woman in 2004. Despite his absence from Monday’s court hearing, Brand has been vocal about his intent to challenge the accusations. Notably, the actor and comedian, known for his marriage to Katy Perry, has shifted his public image towards advocating for free speech and free thinking in the United States.
Russell Brand, aged 50, started his career in stand-up comedy and later gained recognition as a television and radio presenter in the UK. Transitioning to the film industry, he appeared in movies such as ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and ‘Get Him to the Greek’. Brand, a Christian convert, has authored books like ‘My Booky Wook’ and ‘Revolution’.
