Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged on Monday that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is likely to have a negative impact on international markets. Peskov, speaking during a media briefing in Moscow, expressed concerns about the potential repercussions on global markets due to these actions. He also highlighted the lack of clarity surrounding the details of the US decision to block the strait.
The United States recently announced its intention to enforce a maritime blockade on vessels entering or exiting Iranian ports, starting from April 13. This move, initiated by US Central Command, will affect maritime traffic in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The blockade is set to be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations, excluding those transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.
In a separate development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to visit Beijing for a two-day official visit starting Tuesday. During this visit, Lavrov will engage in discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on various bilateral cooperation issues, international collaboration, and regional matters. The agenda includes talks on joint efforts within multilateral mechanisms like the UN, BRICS, SCO, G20, and APEC, with a particular focus on addressing current global challenges and regional crises.
