Nine rusted unexploded mortar shells were discovered near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The shells were found during an area domination patrol by Army troops in the Mankote area of Mendhar sector. Following the discovery, the area was cordoned off, and bomb disposal squads safely neutralized the explosives.
Officials confirmed that a joint team of the Army and Police conducted controlled explosions to destroy the mortar shells. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage to life or property during the operation. The situation in the region is reported to be fully under control.
It is not uncommon to find remnants of past cross-border shelling in forward areas along the LoC. These discoveries are managed according to standard safety protocols by security forces. Poonch district had previously suffered significant damage during Operation Sindoor, with civilian facilities and army installations targeted by Pakistan in retaliation to Indian attacks on terror infrastructure.
