Sanand in Gujarat, known for its automobile manufacturing, is now becoming a vital part of India’s semiconductor ambitions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility by Kaynes Semicon on March 31. This facility, costing Rs 3,300 crore, was approved by the Union Cabinet under the National Semiconductor Mission.
Located in the Sanand industrial area of Gujarat, this unit will focus on testing and packaging semiconductor chips before they enter the market, marking a crucial step in the chip manufacturing process. With an estimated production capacity of around 60 lakh chips per day, this plant is a significant addition to the semiconductor landscape in the region.
Following the recent inauguration of a semiconductor facility by Micron on February 28, the establishment of Kaynes Semicon’s facility adds to the growing cluster of semiconductor investments in Sanand. Another unit by CG Semi is also in the works, indicating a rising trend of semiconductor activities in the area.
The Gujarat government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, is actively promoting the state as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing and related industries. The addition of the OSAT facility is expected to enhance the local ecosystem and boost economic activities associated with advanced manufacturing.
