Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik marked World Health Day by crafting a six-foot-tall sand sculpture at Puri Beach in Odisha. The sculpture, created with tons of sand, saluted frontline workers and carried the message, “Together for Health, Stand with Science”. Pattnaik, assisted by students from his institute, depicted human figures symbolizing unity, compassion, and the vital role of science in global health.

World Health Day, observed annually on April 7, aims to raise awareness about global health issues and encourage collective action for public well-being. Pattnaik’s artwork emphasized solidarity, scientific awareness, and shared responsibility in creating a healthier world. The artist stressed the importance of supporting science and enhancing healthcare systems in a constantly changing global scenario, urging people to adopt healthier lifestyles for societal well-being.

Pattnaik, a globally acclaimed artist, has represented India in numerous international sand sculpture championships and festivals, garnering accolades for using art to address social and environmental concerns. Through his sand art, he paid tribute to healthcare workers and others dedicated to humanity’s welfare. The theme for World Health Day 2026, “Together for Health, Stand with Science”, launched by the World Health Organisation, focuses on scientific collaboration and key objectives like the “One Health” approach.
