The Powai Police have arrested a second suspect, Prashantraj Yadav, in connection with the recovery of live cartridges from a hostel room at IIT Bombay. Yadav, a 24-year-old real estate agent from Bihar, was apprehended in Ujjain while returning from a religious tour. The initial discovery of five live cartridges on February 19 in a student’s room led to the arrest of the first suspect, Sarvottam Chaudhary.
The investigation revealed that the first suspect, Chaudhary, had shared weapon photographs with Yadav, the newly arrested individual. It was disclosed that the cartridges were kept by the student to impress peers, not with any harmful intent. Further inquiries unveiled discussions between Chaudhary and Yadav about purchasing a weapon, which did not materialize. The incident has sparked concerns about a potential illegal ammunition supply network, prompting ongoing police scrutiny.
The recovery of live ammunition at IIT Bombay has raised significant security apprehensions. The incident underscores the importance of maintaining strict security measures at educational institutions. The authorities are actively investigating the case to ensure the safety and security of the campus community.
