Security agencies are closely monitoring a network of social media accounts linked to Khalistan-affiliated gangsters in Punjab and Haryana. These accounts, believed to be operated by gangsters or their associates, showcase lavish lifestyles with high-end vehicles, designer clothing, and luxurious residences to attract young recruits. This online presence is seen as a strategic move to entice impressionable youth into their fold.

With the Khalistan ideology facing challenges in appealing to the younger generation, the gangsters are resorting to flaunting wealth as a recruitment tactic. Recent weeks have witnessed a surge in such content, prompting authorities to heighten surveillance on social media interactions. The gangster-controlled accounts entice youth by promising a life of opulence, including fancy cars, flashy clothes, and grand houses, as part of their recruitment strategy.

Police are actively monitoring Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms to gain insights into this recruitment approach. Intelligence suggests that Khalistani groups are pushing for an extensive recruitment campaign, targeting youth for various illicit activities such as extortion, targeted killings, drug smuggling, and arms trafficking. The lure of money and a luxurious lifestyle is being used to draw in recruits, especially as the ideology fails to resonate with the current generation in Punjab.

This recruitment drive coincides with a crackdown on Khalistani elements in Canada, where joint efforts with India aim to combat this threat. Canada recently passed legislation criminalizing public displays of symbols associated with designated Khalistani terror outfits, a move welcomed by both Indian and Canadian groups. The legislation also seeks to prevent attacks on places of worship, addressing concerns raised by India regarding hate propaganda and targeted violence by Khalistani groups.
