An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists in J&K’s Shopian district on Wednesday was detected by security forces and safely defused. The IED, found along the Zainpora-Chitargam road during routine area sanitization, was aimed at security force vehicles passing through. The Bomb Disposal Squad successfully neutralized the IED after a brief traffic halt on the road.
IEDs, often used by guerrilla or terrorist groups, are homemade destructive devices intended to cause harm and damage. These devices, made from various components, pose a significant threat in conflicts worldwide. Security forces employ Bomb Disposal Squads to handle such dangers effectively.
Road opening parties (ROPs) are promptly dispatched by security forces in J&K to search for IEDs on roads, ensuring the safety of vehicles and civilians. This proactive measure, known as ‘sanitization,’ is crucial for safeguarding against potential threats posed by terrorists planting IEDs on roads and highways.
