Soorma Hockey Club’s captain, Harmanpreet Singh, expressed readiness to take on reigning champions Bengal Tigers in their first match of the Hockey India League (HIL) on Sunday. The team, with a consistent core from the previous season, has focused on refining their strategies rather than rebuilding. Training has emphasized disciplined defense, efficient transition play against top-tier opponents, and improved decision-making in critical moments, especially during penalty corners.
Harmanpreet Singh stated, “We are calm, clear, and prepared to challenge the champions. Our group’s familiarity aids in maintaining composure and concentrating on details like creating pressure, capitalizing on opportunities, and making wise choices during crucial junctures.” The captain highlighted the significance of HIL as a major platform for the team to establish rhythm and confidence, considering the busy schedule ahead.
Head coach Philippe Goldberg echoed the team’s confidence, emphasizing the importance of intent and discipline when facing a formidable opponent like the defending champions. Goldberg stressed the necessity of controlling transitions, displaying patience off the ball, and seizing opportunities decisively. The team’s continuity instills belief and enables purposeful preparation, instilling confidence rather than doubt.
As Soorma Hockey Club gears up for their season opener, their approach remains simple: stay composed, trust their structure, and be prepared to challenge the champions right from the start. The HIL commences with the Tamil Nadu Dragons facing the Hyderabad Toofans in the opening match. Soorma Hockey Club will then confront the Bengal Tigers in the second game on Sunday, followed by a clash between Kalinga Lancers and Ranchi Royals on the same day.
